Who is Zakir Hussain

Zakir Hussain Allarakha Qureshi (9 March 1951 – 16 December 2024) was a famed Indian tabla virtuoso, musician, percussionist, music patron, and film actor. Extensively accredited for depleting classical Indian music encyclopedically, he was the eldest son of the fabulous tabla maestro Alla Rakha. Hussain achieved four Grammy Awards and several nominations including three in 2024.
Hussain entered multitudinous prestigious accolades, including the United. States National Endowment for the trades’ National Heritage Fellowship and India’s. Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1990.

Early-life of Zakir Hussain

Zakir Hussain Allarakha Qureshi completed his training at St. Michael’s High School in Mahim and latterly graduated from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai.
Hussain married Antonia Minnecola, a Kathak cotillion, schoolteacher, and his director. They had two daughters Anisa, a filmmaker, and Isabella, a cotillion pupil. Hussain’s sisters are percussionist Taufiq and table player Fazal. His family Munawar failed youthful from a rabid canine attack, and family. Razia passed away shortly before their father’s death in 2000. He also has a family, Khurshid. In May 2022, Mumbai University awarded him a memorial Croaker of Law degree for his benefactions to music.
Career of Zakir Hussain

Zakir Hussain’s musical collaborations gauged across stripes and artists. He played on George Harrison’s 1973 reader Living in the Material World. John Handy’s Hard Work (1973), Van Morrison’s into the Music (1979), and Earth, Wind & Fire’s Powerlight (1983). He was also invited by Mickey Hart of the Grateful.
