In June 2008, Om Prakash, along with 53 others. Was charging in connection with the illegal appointment of 3,206 Junior Basic Teachers in Haryana during the 1999–2000 period. In January 2013, a New Delhi court sentenced Chautala and his son. Ajay Singh Chautala, to ten years of imprisonment under various provisions of the. Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Prevention of Corruption Act. The court found them guilty of unlawfully recruiting over 3,000 unqualified teachers. The Supreme Court, following a writ petition filed by Sanjeev Kumar, a former Director of Primary Education and a 1989-batch IAS officer, ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the matter. Subsequently, both the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court upheld the sentence.
